SAISは素材にこだわります。生産過程を見て、職人と対話し、日本の布地を再発見します。日本の各土地には、洋装が広まった戦前から今日までの何十年にもわたり、日々、衣服をつくることを営みとしてきた人たちがいます。脈々と技術をつないできた家族や工場や街があります。その良さは触ってみたらすぐにわかる。ふっくらとした混交の布帛、しなやかで上質な裏毛、なめらかでよく伸びる天竺……何も派手ではないけれど、真剣にものづくりを続けたからこそ生まれたものです。どの生地も、実用性とストーリーを併せ持っているのです。
Because SAIS cares about the material, we check the production process, talk with individual craftsmen to rediscover new fabrics made in Japan. In many parts of Japan, there are people who have been engaged in making clothes every day for decades even before Western clothes spread throughout the country. There are families, factories and towns that have been able to inherit their technology to this day. You can tell how good it is immediately when you touch and feel it. There are materials such as plump, mixed fabrics, supple and fine fleece, smooth and well-grown sheets of jersey. It's not something flashy, but it's the result of fine craftsmanship. Every fabric has both a story and practicality.
#1 綿麻ウール三者混交平織
COTTON LINEN WOOL MIXTURE TEXTILE
品質：綿47%、麻30%、ウール23%

たて糸に綿、よこ糸には麻とウールを配合した平織りの布帛生地は、さらりとした肌ざわりのなかにランダムなネップ感があり、あたたかみを感じるファブリック。さらにウールのしなやかさと麻の光沢やハリ感が加わり、他にない独特な表情を見せます。それぞれ染色性が異なる天然繊維なので各糸ごとに先染めをしています。
The plain weaved fabric, which contains cotton for the warp yarn, hemp and wool for the weft yarn, is a fabric that makes you feel warm and smooth on your skin. Also, it shows a unique look with the suppleness of wool and the sheen and firmness of hemp. Each fiber has a different dyeability, so each yarn is dyed first.
既製服ではあまり行われない丸縫い。生地の縫製と裁断からボタンホールの穴がかりまで、すべて一人の職人が仕上げています。
We make this clothes by make-through which is not often used for ready-made clothes.From the sewing and cutting of the cloth, to making tae buttonhole, all of the process is done by one craftsman.
3種の天然繊維をブレンドした高品質な生地。洗いざらしで仕上げたナチュラルなシワ感と、上品な光沢感を併せ持っているのが特徴。
It’s a high-quality fabric which blends three types of natural fibers. It is characterized by having both natural wrinkles, then is finished by washing and adding an elegant gloss.
#2 超熟ピマ裏毛
JAPANESE PIMA COTTON FLEECE

原材料地は日本。希少な超長綿を使用した糸で編み上げた上質な裏毛スウェット生地です。なめらかで光沢感がありシルクのような美しい光沢感が特徴です。黒色の染めには、特濃ブラックという染色方法を採用。同じ黒でも、浅い黒や、赤みの強い黒、緑みの強い黒……と幅がありますが、この方法ならより深い黒に仕上がります。
The material is made in Japan. It is a high-quality fleece sweatshirt woven with a rare super-long cotton yarn. It is smooth but shiny, and features a beautiful silky luster. For dyeing it into black, we use a special method called “The Deepest Black”. When you imagine what black is, there are different types of black, such as a shallow black, black with a strong redness, black with a strong greenness, and with this method in mind, we are able to get a deeper black color.
なめらかさが特徴の超長綿に、さらに特殊な工程を加え、しなやかな肌ざわりを追求しました。シルクなような美しい光沢感が特徴です。
We sought the supple texture by a special process for the ultra-long cottons, which is characterized by smoothness. It features a beautiful silky luster.
見た目にはなめらかな光沢感があり、着心地はしなやかで心地いい。大人に似合う上質なスウェット生地。
It has a smooth glossy appearance and is comfortable and supple when you wear it. It is a high-quality sweat fabric suitable for adults.
#3 超長綿スビン天竺
COMPACT SPINNING COTTON

機屋：トーエイニット株式会社（岐阜県羽島市）、染色（オフホワイト）：金井染工株式会社（栃木県足利市）、染色（ブラック）：本田染工株式会社（東京都葛飾区）
超長綿スビンとDCH32の混紡の天竺ニット。毛羽が少なく、光沢があり、油分が多い、希少なコンパクトスピン糸を使用したことによる、つるりとした美しさが特徴。通常、この素材で編まれるゲージよりもハイゲージで細かく編み立てたことによって、しっかりとした面感のある仕上がりです。染色は特濃ブラックを採用。
There is an India knit blend of super long cotton spine and DCH32. It features a slender beauty due to the use of a rare compact, that spins yarn with less fuzz, luster, and oil. This knit is made with a high gauge but finer than a gauge knitted with this material that is normally used. It results in a more firm surface. We use “The Deepest Black” for this dyeing process.
極上の肌ざわりは希少種の超長綿スビンを使用しているから。さらに生地を柔らかくする工程を加え、上質な天竺に編み上げました。
The finest texture is made from rare ultra-long cotton spine. Also, we finished it as high-quality India knit by the process of softening the dough.
体に合わせて驚くほど伸びるからストレスフリー。一見、布帛のようにも見える目の詰まった均一な編みで、つるりとした面感が特徴。
It is stress free because it expands amazingly to fit on your body. It is uniform and a clogged knit just like our cloth. It features a smooth texture.
